Stoke's Formula

Viscosity force acting on a smooth sphere

Stoke's formula determines the force resulting from the viscosity of a liquid acting on a smooth sphere with stream line motion. Stoke's formula is expressed as

F = 6 π η r v     (1)

where

F = force (N)

η = viscosity of fluid

r = radius of sphere (m)

v= relative velocity between fluid and sphere (m/s)
